Mount Martha Tennis Club players can look forward to bouncing into action and taking their skills to the next level, thanks to an upgrade of the club’s tennis courts, backed by the Allan Labor Government.
Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh today opened the upgraded courts, alongside Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor, Cr Simon Brooks and the club.
These works were made possible by a $300,000 investment from the Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Previously the courts had cracks in the base foundations, forcing the club’s more than 500 players to practice on uneven and unsafe surfaces that were unable to withstand weather extremes.
The courts’ surfacing has been upgraded to meet Tennis Australia competition standards that will improve player experience and increase the lifespan of the courts. The upgrades also come complete with 350 lux LED lighting and new fencing, benefitting the more than 100 nighttime players who regularly use the courts.
These upgrades promise to be a game-changer for the tennis club, with the improved courts now offering more time for training and matches, and more opportunities for the club to expand its programs and get locals in on the fun.
The club also has a new Book-a-Court online system that gives the Mount Martha community the opportunity to book courts throughout the week, opening the venue to greater community access.
The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is also providing more than $23 million to continue delivery of community sport and active recreation infrastructure, and programs to increase participation opportunities and improve accessibility.
Tom McIntosh MP acknowledged Mornington Peninsula Shire Council for its more than $1 million contribution and commitment to delivering the project. He also acknowledged Mount Martha Tennis Club for its $80,000 contribution.
