East Gippsland Shire Council will continue to work towards even more amazing tourist attractions for people to visit with another exciting local project receiving support.

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh today announced that the East Gippsland Shire Council will receive $80,000 for its Omeo Justice Precinct project, as part of the Labor Government’s Enabling Tourism Fund 2024.

The funds provided to this project will go towards developing a business case and masterplan to activate the Omeo Justice Precinct.

The masterplan is aimed at creating a vibrant tourism experience to celebrate the rich history and cultural significance of the region. Adaptive reuse of the heritage buildings and their surrounds is expected to complement and diversify Omeo’s tourism offering.
This project is one of 29 new infrastructure projects across the state’s regional and rural areas benefiting from the Enabling Tourism Fund 2024.

The Enabling Tourism Fund is part of a $170 million investment to create more local jobs, support our important tourism businesses, and attract more people to experience regional Victoria's incredible tourism experiences.

The grants of up to $500,000 will support regional tourism projects to become ready for investment by funding feasibility studies and designing future infrastructure.

The Fund is helping strengthen and grow Victoria’s tourism industry and is a key part of the Labor Government’s Experience Victoria 2033 strategic plan. The plan outlines five priority areas that leverage Victoria’s competitive advantages – including First Peoples’-led experiences, Wellness, Arts and Culture, Food and Drink, and Nature.

All projects awarded funding under the Enabling Tourism Fund demonstrate alignment with these priorities.
