Volunteer emergency services organisations on the Mornington Peninsula have received a funding boost to support their ongoing service to the local community as part of the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) grants.
Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh today announced that four separate Peninsula volunteer emergency services are among the 2024-25 VESEP grant recipients that will share in more than $15 million to purchase new equipment, improve emergency response capability and support community safety.
The Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad at Blairgowrie will receive $46,145 to help it buy two new 175 horsepower Suzuki motors, and two controlled lifebuoys for rescues.
The Mt Martha Life Saving will receive $19,615 for new equipment including rescue boards, storage racks for boats, and a new motor, while Rosebud and McCrae Surf Life Saving Club will receive $27,269 from the fund for safety matting and cabinetry.
Residents around Point Leo will also be safer, with the Point Leo Surf Life Saving Club receiving $18,906 for two new beach trailers, and a new motor - allowing volunteers to better respond to emergencies.
VESEP is an annual grants program that provides funding to Victorian emergency services volunteer groups to purchase essential operational equipment, vehicles and appliances and undertake minor facility improvements.
Since 2015, the Allan Labor Government has provided $138 million in VESEP grants, ensuring volunteer groups throughout the state have the resources, equipment and facilities they need to continue their vital work supporting local communities.
