Two East Gippsland fishing clubs will receive upgrades through the Allan Labor Government’s Stronger Fishing Club Grants program.

The funding will also boost membership and encourage the next generation of recreational fishers, with new grants backing community-based clubs.

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh MP announced that the Bairnsdale Fly Fishers will receive almost $10,000 to upgrade their clubhouse and to build a website. The upgrades will include replacing their solar equipment and building a machinery and mower shed.

The Omeo Angling Club will receive $7,400 to go towards improving mobile signal, buying a POS system, replacing windows, and fixing roof water leaks.

12 fishing clubs in total across the state received Stronger Fishing Club Grants, delivering the facilities and support they need to succeed.

The program is part of the Labor Government’s $96m investment to improve fishing, boating, piers and aquaculture for communities across the state.

The Allan Labor Government has invested heavily in recreational fishing: from fish stocking, to providing fishing rods for primary school aged children, and removing commercial operations from the Gippsland Lakes.

The Victorian Government has also upgraded boat ramps across the state, to make it easier for anglers to take to the water.
