The Victorian Government has helped transform Lions Park, making it safer and boosting connections for Lilydale residents.
Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh today joined Yarra Ranges Shire councillors and Suburban Revitalisation Board Members to officially open the upgraded park, which was supported by a $585,000 investment from the Labor Government’s Suburban Revitalisation Program.
Delivered in two stages, the upgrade of Lions Park has transformed the much-loved space and provided better connections between the two ends of the park and the surrounding area.
Stage one has created a visible pedestrian thoroughfare connecting both sides of the Maroondah Highway along with revegetation works that will offer locals a peaceful resting place to enjoy nature on the northern section of Olinda Creek.
Stage two has delivered additional landscaping and infrastructure improvements to the southern section of the Olinda Creek corridor.
Since 2016, the Government has invested close to $3.1 million into 22 suburban revitalisation projects in Lilydale, including the Castella Streetscape Plan, art projects and the community garden.
There are eight Suburban Revitalisation Boards across Melbourne, focused on driving economic and social renewal in Broadmeadows, Boronia, Frankston, Lilydale, Melton, Noble Park, Reservoir and Tarneit.
Across metropolitan Melbourne, the Suburban Revitalisation Program has invested more than $44 million since 2016, to deliver 222 projects to the value of more than $102 million.
Yarra Ranges Shire Council contributed $235,000 towards the delivery of the project.
