Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll officially opened a $12.8 million upgrade at Korumburra Secondary College on Wednesday, alongside Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh.
These upgrades include construction of a brand-new learning hub, increasing classroom capacity and providing students with modernised learning spaces. The existing administration building has also been refurbished, along with other support space improvements and landscaping, while an old classroom wing has been demolished.
Mr McIntosh and the Deputy Premier toured the school on Wednesday after the official opening with Principal John Wilson highlighting how the upgrades will help support students through better facilities and enhanced learning opportunities.
With Korumburra’s population growing these upgrades couldn’t have come at a better time. The school now has 428 enrolled students for 2024 – a five per cent increase in 12 months.
These upgrades were made possible by funding allocated from the 2020-21 State Budget as part of the Victorian Government’s record investment in education. In the past 9 years, the Victorian Government has invested $14.9 billion in building new schools and upgrading more than 1,940 existing schools.
The Allan Labor Government is ensuring that all Victorian children have access to a quality education because investing in our children is the most important investment we can make in our future.
Modern learning environments help develop creative thinking, promote STEM literacy, and inspire learning for life – critical skills for future success. New and modern school buildings contribute to school pride for students, parents and the wider community, building their engagement with education.
