NEW RESCUE TRUCK FOR LAKES ENTRANCE CFA

08 December 2023

The Lakes Entrance Fire Brigade has officially received a state-of-the-art rescue truck, which will increase the brigade’s ability to assist the community during critical rescue emergencies.

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh joined the brigade, along with Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteers to handover the rescue truck and congratulate them on their new vehicle.

Prioritising sustainability, the rescue truck features fully battery-operated gear, including jaws of life and a jack that can lift up to 50 tonnes. Aside from the diesel required for driving, the vehicle operates emissions-free.

The truck can carry a full steep angle rope cache to perform more complex rescues and makes it easier for volunteers to use and stabilise a rescue stretcher with the inclusion of a mule wheel.

The truck has a detachable platform, enabling volunteers to undertake challenging rescues involving heavy vehicles including trucks, buses and trains, and includes extensive lighting capabilities and marquees to provide protection in harsh weather conditions.

All brigades have the ability to respond to road accidents; however, Lakes Entrance is one of 21 CFA brigades that can perform rescues.

The brigade has 68 volunteers and responds to around 120 requests for assistance every year. It also delivers a range of specialist services including hazmat, rope rescue and marine response alongside the Victoria Volunteer Coast Guard.

The vehicle is part of a rollout of new rescue trucks for CFA brigades, thanks to $4.2 million funding from the Transport Accident Commission.
