Cyclists in regional Victoria will benefit from better connections to local public transport, with more bike racks to be installed on bus services across multiple communities.
More than 69 buses across Victoria will get bike racks, thanks to a $200,000 investment as part of the Allan Labor Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program (FLTSP).
The investment will boost connectivity, active transport and tourism in Bairnsdale and the Latrobe Valley, alongside Warrnambool, Portland, and Mildura.
Bike racks have already been installed on bus routes in Wodonga, Shepparton, Mooroopna, Wangaratta and Benalla, thanks to a previous investment of $150,000.
The bike racks fitted to the front of each bus can hold two bikes at a time and are safe, secure and easy to use.
Cyclists wanting to use the racks can hail the bus and alert the driver that they wish to load a bike, with drivers trained to guide cyclists on how to use the bike racks.
The FLTSP provides funding to local government and community organisations for small-scale transport projects, evidence-based transport studies, and funding to redesign and trial new ways in which transport services at a local level can be delivered across the state.

“This investment will mean locals can jump on a bike, get on a bus, and use their bike at the other end to get where they need to go.”
“It's also a drawcard for tourists; rather than just riding around on our fantastic rail trails, they can get around town by getting on the bus and spend money in the local economy."

“Whether it’s riding to work, or exploring the various scenic destinations of our state, the bike racks on buses initiative better connects cyclists to public transport and the outdoors.”
