REBUILT RYE PIER DECKED OUT FOR SUMMER HOLIDAYS

20 December 2023

One of the Mornington Peninsula’s most popular piers at Rye has been fully rebuilt and upgraded in time for the holidays at so it can be enjoyed by thousands of locals and visitors this summer.

The Allan Labor Government has invested almost $140 million since 2018 to transform piers and jetties across the state including Rye.

A favourite among holidaymakers, Rye Pier’s new widened timber decking will ensure more locals and visitors can safely enjoy its new features, including an enhanced viewing platform offering scenic views of the coastline.

Vessel operators will benefit from additional access points to the water. The revitalised pier now boasts accessible ramps, connecting seamlessly to the new low landings, and a more extensive pier head, anticipated to become a popular spot for anglers.

Safety enhancements include handrails, solar lighting, and locally made seating crafted from salvaged timbers, preserving a connection to the pier's storied past.

While the primary focus has been on promptly reopening the pier for the holiday season, final touches will be completed in the new year, including boat access to the new low landings and a signage trail for snorkellers.

These additional upgrades will enhance the pier's berthing capacity, creating more space for boaters and accommodating larger vessels and tall ships.

The Labor Government announced $46 million in the Budget 2023/24 so critical works can take place at other locations across the state including St Leonards Pier, Workshops Pier and Dromana Pier.

It follows further investments for rebuilding and critical works to piers and jetties at Rye, Raymond Island, Lakes Entrance, McLoughlins Beach, Flinders, Mornington and Hampton.
